CHICAGO — A female corrections lieutenant was punched in the face by an inmate during a struggle to remove a contraband laptop from him.
COs attempted to take away a laptop found in Jimmie Smith’s possession when Smith punched the officer in the face Dec. 5, NBC Chicago reported.
Officials said Smith, 41, was in possession of the laptop to help him prepare for his defense. He is representing himself in an upcoming trial, according to the news station.
An investigation is underway as to how he was able to keep the laptop in his possession.
The sheriff’s office said the laptop had lewd photos of Smith on it.
Smith was charged with aggravated battery in connection to the incident. He has been in police custody for more than seven years, held on a variety of charges.
