Ex-gang member turned rabbi accused of impersonating police

Avorham Gross, formerly known as Latin Kings member Roberto Eddy Santos, faces dozens of charges

NEW YORK — Authorities say an ex-convict who appears to now be a rabbi is accused of impersonating a law enforcement officer.

NBC New York says Avorham Gross, formerly known as Latin Kings member Roberto Eddy Santos, faces dozens of charges.

Brooklyn prosecutors allege he used a badge and fake documents. Authorities say he pretended to represent a non-existent child abuse prevention task force. They say there’s no current evidence he had contact with children.

They also allege he used lights and siren to pull over a New Jersey Transit bus.

Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth Thompson says investigators are looking into whether he really converted to Hasidic Judaism after serving time for violent robberies.

Gross’ lawyer says his client has pleaded not guilty but declined further comment.
