Merced Sun-Star
MERCED, Calif. -- A Merced police officer is said to be in stable condition this morning after he was shot in central Merced, police have confirmed to the Sun-Star.
Details are preliminary. The officer’s name has not been released.
Police have said the officer was shot during a traffic stop at 2:32 a.m. in the 2100 block of H Street. Witnesses in the area are reporting hearing a series of gunshots in the area.
The department’s SWAT Team at 6:30 a.m. entered the backyard of a home in the 100 block of West 22nd Street where they believed a suspect may have been hiding.
No other injuries have been reported.
Police are still actively looking for suspects. CHP and the Merced County Sheriff’s deputies are assisting in the search with the help of the sheriff’s helicopter.
