OSHAWA, Ontaria, Canada (CP) - Visions of an early Christmas present went to pot when police seized two boxes of marijuana shipped to an Oshawa home - the same day the Supreme Court of Canada affirmed that possession is a criminal act.
Members of Durham Regional Police’s drug-enforcement unit intercepted the packages Tuesday while they were being couriered, police said Wednesday. The boxes contained 15.4 kilograms of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $314,000.
The seizure occurred only hours after Canada’s highest court released a ruling that said there’s no free-standing right to toke for recreational purposes.
Charged with various marijuana-possession offences were Kevin Quoc, 29, of Toronto, and Joanne Pawlowsky, 18, and Ralston Roy Logan, 23, both of Oshawa.
