WASHINGTON — Marcus Edwards planned to enroll in the police academy after graduating from Morgan State University, but he never got the chance.

Twenty-one-year-old Edwards was found fatally stabbed off-campus in Baltimore, NBC Washington reported.

His dream came true at his funeral when the Metropolitan Police Department, along with the U.S. Mint where he volunteered, named him an honorary officer.

“Marcus’s life, though admittedly short, was a life committed to achievement, a life committed to leadership and, most importantly, a life committed to helping others,” MPD Interim Police Chief Peter Newsham said at the funeral.

His killing remains under investigation. Officials say Edwards’ wallet and cellphone remained with him after the attack.
