SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) -- A sport utility vehicle was spotted in northwest Louisiana Thursday that matched the description of the vehicle owned by a Georgia man accused of killing four people and kidnapping three children, state police said.
The vehicle, a red or maroon 1991 Ford Explorer, was seen near Shreveport about noon, Capt. Mike Edmonson said. State police issued a “media advisory” to spread the word throughout the state but stopped short of issuing an Amber alert, which would trigger automatic news breaks about the case on radio and television.
Jerry William Jones, 31, allegedly abducted his two daughters and a former stepdaughter after killing his ex-wife’s parents, sister and his own 10-month-old daughter, Georgia authorities said. He had been on the run since Wednesday.
Edmonson said Jones had no known connection to Shreveport, which lies near the Texas and Arkansas state lines, at the intersection of interstates 20 and 49.
