GREENWOOD, Ark. — K-9 Officer Kina was awarded the Purple Heart for her bravery Thursday.
Kina was injured in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance call that killed Deputy Bill Cooper and left another officer injured.
Kina was caught in shot twice in the crossfire between suspect Billy Monroe Jones and officers. The K-9 was found days later after she fled into the woods.
The retired members of Fort Smith Police Department presented the award, KFSM reports.
