COVINGTON, Ind. — An Indiana K-9 dog passed away Monday from complications of heat exhaustion after assisting the search of three men believed to be involved in a Danville robbery.
According to the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department, K-9 Tyson was called out for assistance along with with multiple agencies to help search and apprehend three men police believe held up a Danville Walgreens.
“During this search, K-9 Tyson developed minor heat exhaustion which developed into a critical case of heat exhaustion due to high outside temperature and humidity,” a post on the department’s Facebook page read.
Tyson was then transported via ambulance to a local veterinarian, where he was being regularly monitored. However, the post stated he developed complications and “ultimately succumbed.” His “End of Watch” was dated Monday, June 27.
The post continued, “K-9 Tyson served us as a department and you all in this and surrounding county with pride and we will forever be grateful for his service and ultimate sacrifice to protect his citizens of this great county.”
The Facebook post also asked “for the communities help in lifting up your Fountain County Sheriff’s Department and K-9 Tyson’s handler in your prayers and thoughts as we continue to push forward through this very hard time.”
It also mentioned more information on arrangements will be posted later this week, and donations can be sent to the Fountain County Sheriff’s Department K-9 fund.
