BERKELEY, Mo. — The mayor of the St. Louis suburb of Berkeley plans a news conference Tuesday to discuss the investigation of the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old by a city police officer.
Mayor Theodore Hoskins is scheduled to provide an update on the internal investigation of the Christmas Eve shooting of Antonio Martin. It was the third fatal shooting of a black suspect by a white officer in the region since 18-year-old Michael Brown was fatally shot by a Ferguson officer on Aug. 9, and it led to renewed protests.
Police have said surveillance footage seems to confirm that Martin pointed a gun at the officer before he was shot in a convenience store parking lot.
Berkeley neighbors Ferguson.
