MADILL, Oka. — An on-duty Chickasaw Nation police officer died Friday when he tried to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone and collided with a pickup, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
Special Agent Robert Patrick “Pat” Flickinger of the Lighthorse Police Department died at the scene of the wreck, which occurred about 7:55 p.m. just east of Madill on State Highway 199 in Marshall County.
Flickinger, 37, was eastbound on the highway when he attempted to pass another vehicle on a hill, the patrol said. Flickinger’s car struck the driver’s side of a pickup driven by Ronny Wayne Goff, 67, of Madill.
Goff was taken to an Oklahoma City hospital, the patrol said. His passenger, wife Donna Sue Goff, 54, was taken to a Madill hospital, where she was treated and released.
Donna Goff was the only one of the three wearing a seat belt, the patrol said.
Flickinger began his career as a Lighthorse police officer in September 2004 and was promoted to his current rank last October, Lighthorse Police Chief Jason O’Neal said in a written news release. He had 16 years of experience in law enforcement, was a U.S. Navy veteran and a graduate of the FBI National Academy, a member of the Lighthorse police scuba diving and SWAT teams, the release states.
“Agent Flickinger listed on his resume that his personal goal was to maintain integrity in order to be a positive role model to his daughter and community,” O’Neal said. “The Chickasaw Nation and state of Oklahoma have lost a hero.”
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Watts Funeral Home in Madill.
