GEORGE COUNTY, Miss. — A full-time officer and part-time sheriff’s deputy was killed in a crash early Tuesday while responding to an accident.
The Sun Herald reports 24-year-old John Robert Street died after his vehicle left the road and hit a tree.
“For 24-years-old, he was the most mature young man,” George County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Shonna Pierce told the Clarion-Ledger. “He was always willing to help a fellow officer, he could always be counted on. He was a good person, he was kind and compassionate, he was all the things law enforcement officers are made of.”
Street was a four-year veteran police officer and worked full-time at the Lucedale Police Department, as well as part-time with the George County Sheriff’s Office, according to the report.
Police are still investigating the crash.
