CHEROKEE, N.C. — A Cherokee police officer died from injuries sustained during the line of duty, Citizen-Times reported.
Cherokee Indian Police Department Patrol Officer Anthony “Tony” Lossiah died from medical complications after a suspect pursuit on Aug. 11. The officer tore a muscle in his hip and suffered internal bleeding. The bleeding led to more medical complications, Officer Ben Reed told the publication.
Lossiah enjoyed working with schools and was loyal to the department, Reed told the news site.
“He was a very capable officer,” Reed said in his interview. “He was one of a kind.”
Lossiah is a 17-year veteran of the force. He is survived by his wife and three children.
