COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Lancaster police officer has been convicted of drunken driving after his arrest on Thanksgiving evening by a state trooper.
Gregory L. Yarbrough, 40, of Lancaster, pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving under the influence before Fairfield Municipal Judge David Trimmer. His blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.17 percent, more than twice the level at which a driver is presumed drunk.
Yarbrough was sentenced to 90 days in jail, with the time suspended except for three days he must serve in a residential treatment program. His driver’s license was suspended for six months, and he was placed on probation for two years.
Yarbrough was placed on paid leave after his arrest, pending an investigation and possible discipline, said city Service-Safety Director Mike Courtney. The officer was forthcoming about his mistake and it is his first DUI offense, he said.
Yarbrough has served on the Lancaster police force for nearly 13 years after service with the Fairfield County sheriff’s office.
