EL PASO — A state grand jury has indicted a retired El Paso Police Department officer in connection with the growing scandal over allegations of misappropriation of overtime pay.

Documents stated that Francisco Enriquez, 55, was indicted on three counts of tampering with a government record with intent to defraud for allegedly falsifying police daily work reports regarding the issuance of traffic citations on three dates in February and April in 2009. The indictment was issued last week on Feb. 16.

Enriquez was booked into jail on Thursday and then released on $1,000 bond.

Enriquez, who retired in 2009, is the fifth former officer to be indicted after an investigation into irregularities in overtime pay linked to grant-funded traffic enforcement.
