BOISE, Idaho — A corporal who was left paralyzed from the waist down and lost his left leg after a November shooting was welcomed home Wednesday after he was released from rehab.
Cpl. Kevin Holtry was severely wounded after he was shot multiple times on Nov. 11 while searching for a recently released felon who opened fire at a party, KTVB reported.
Holtry, a 17-year veteran, spent the last two months at a Denver hospital undergoing intensive physical rehabilitation for his spinal cord injuries, according to the news station.
His two daughters, fellow officers and community members welcomed him home when he arrived at the airport. Holtry will continue his recovery at home.
Police Chief Bill Bones said Holtry’s return was a great day for the entire department.
“His family is just overwhelmingly happy. It’s a sense of rejuvenation for our department,” Bones said.
Holtry said he’s looking forward to putting his uniform back on when he returns to duty as a training officer for Boise police.
“It’s gonna be the best day ever,” he said. “I mean, there’s a lot of pride that comes with that.”
