Fla. steps up enforcement of “Move Over” law

The Gainsville Sun today reported that the Florida Highway Patrol has begun a, operation to step up enforcement of that state’s “Move Over” law.

The story in the Sun stated that the Florida law requires drivers to “change lanes and move over as soon as it is safe when an emergency vehicle, such as patrol car, ambulance or wrecker with emergency lights activated, is parked on the side of a multi-lane road. On two-lane roads or when drivers cannot safely move over, they are required to slow down to at least 20 mph below the posted speed limit.”

“People need to just move over and give us room to work,” Alachua County sheriff’s Lt. Dan Brinskow said in the newspaper’s coverage of the statewide, multi-agency operation, slated to run through the weekend.
