Police monitored the group and closed several intersections in an attempt to prevent the activity. The vehicles ultimately gathered at East West Highway and Connecticut Avenue, where drivers blocked traffic and performed donuts in the roadway.
Authorities said several participants exited their vehicles and stood in the intersection, preventing officers from entering while the activity continued.
During the incident, two marked police cruisers were damaged. In one case, an officer was inside a vehicle when the rear window and windshield were shattered. No officers were injured.
Maryland State Police assisted in clearing the area. Prior to the incident in Montgomery County, three handguns were recovered during related traffic stops conducted by Prince George’s County Police and Maryland State Police.
