This is probably common sense for most, but in a long list of lessons learned the hard way, I discovered another issue while deploying my rifle rapidly from my patrol rack.
I have been in the habit of allowing my single point sling hang while the patrol rifle is in the rack (a 2013 Dodge Charger with Santa Cruz Gun Lock overhead rifle rack).
While practicing rapid deployment / rapidly exiting my vehicle with my rifle — yes, this is how I spend my free time — my sling hung up on my seat organizer, water bottle in cup holder, and the passenger seat belt release.
Not all at once, of course, but most of the time it got one of them.
I found that simply looping my sling on the unused front sling mount, I eliminated the issue.
I’ve also been told that officers use rubber bands to wrap up the slings which are easily removed for deployment.
Stay safe.
