SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A jail deputy is recovering from serious injuries after an inmate attacked him.
According to the Springfield News Leader, the deputy was attacked Saturday while performing correctional officer duties at the Greene County Jail.
The deputy suffered a broken nose, fractured jaw, a concussion, and required staples to close multiple head injuries.
The names of the inmate and deputy have not been released and an investigation is ongoing.
“Men and women in law enforcement place themselves in danger daily to protect our citizens,” Sheriff Jim Arnott told KY3. “This was a horrendous event which could have had a much more different conclusion but it is the heroism of the other correctional officers on duty who swiftly and expertly resolved the situation.”
