Spend at least a few minutes before your shift drawing your sidearm (after rendering it safe, of course). This will better prepare you to draw smoothly and quickly should the need arise during your upcoming tour. On the qualification line I can spot officers who haven’t practiced drawing prior to arriving. They’re the ones not getting rounds off during timed shooting because they’re not executing a smooth draw. You can’t shoot a gun if you can’t get it out. Along those lines, consider drawing from a seated position as well as a standing position to determine how effective you would be should you find yourself in that position. It’s better to determine what you can and can’t do BEFORE it’s for real.
