RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. — Officials say a Rankin County deputy was stabbed with a needle during an arrest Saturday.
Officers received a domestic disturbance call stating Don Summerlin, 39, had allegedly tried to attack a woman and her mother, the Clarion-Ledger reported.
Undersheriff Raymond Duke told the publication Summerlin left before officers arrived on the scene, but a lieutenant recognized the car and attempted to pull Summerlin over.
Summerlin pretended to flee, then reversed and hit the patrol car. Officers attempted to arrest Summerlin and deployed a TASER after he resisted. As he was being handcuffed, Summerlin produced a hypodermic needle and stabbed a deputy, Duke said.
Authorities said Summerlin admitted to being under the influence of methamphetamines.
Both the deputy and the suspect have been taken to a local hospital to be tested.
