CINCINNATI — Several officers were forced to take cover after the sounds of gunfire broke out during a Thursday traffic stop.

Officers pulled over a driver for not having his headlights on, Cincinnati.com reported.

After police verified the driver’s information, the officers returned to the stopped vehicle. That’s when sounds of possible gunfire nearby forced officers to take cover behind their vehicles.

Officers told the stopped driver to leave the scene. The officers then set out to search the area.

Lt. Steve Saunders told the publication that the investigation is over and the department could not find evidence to substantiate that the incident was intended to harm officers.
