PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A deputy shot herself in the finger while being attacked by a pit bull on a call.

The unidentified deputy was contacting the dog’s owner about an attack on a homeless man by the dog when she was attacked, WTSP reported.

Fox 13 reported the incident happened Saturday.

The dog broke from its leash as the deputy approached. The dog then lunged at the deputy’s pant leg, causing her to fall to the ground. In self-defense, she fired her gun at the dog.

Initially, the deputy thought she shot her finger off, but a bullet grazed her finger, the news station reported. She was treated at a hospital and released.
