BRIER, Wash. — The mayor of Brier issued a statement Thursday regarding the firing of former officer Dan Anderson, who told KIRO he was terminated for responding to a deadly shooting in a neighboring jurisdiction.
The statement says that the way Anderson describes the event is “not a complete or accurate description.”
Anderson had to repeat training and was not meeting job expectations, Brier City Mayor Bob Colinas said.
Colinas also stated that the decision to respond to the shooting was another example of a performance issue and that other departments with more officers on-duty were closer to the scene.
Anderson previously said he was told by the Brier police chief that he shouldn’t have left the town unprotected to respond to the shooting.
The former officer responded to the statement by saying officials were “feeling the heat from scrutiny” for their “indefensible” decision and that the training issue wasn’t out of the norm because he was learning a new system. He also said he arrived to the scene quicker than other nearby officers.
