TEMPLE, Texas — The Marlin Police Department chief was in critical condition after being shot in the head Sunday, Waco Tribune reported.
Chief Darrell Allen was working as security at a bar on Nov. 1, when police responded to a call about an officer being shot.
Another security officer working with Allen told police the suspect and Allen had a verbal altercation. When Allen went to arrest the suspect, a struggle ensued and Allen was shot in the struggle.
Allen was taken to the hospital with wounds thought to be life-threatening. Temple Police Sgt. Allen Teston reported Allen to be in critical but stable condition, according to a press release obtained by the publication.
Police arrested Derrick Wayne Gamble, 24, in connection to the shooting. Gamble was charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer.
An investigation is ongoing. No further details were available.
