COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State University’s head football coach visited an officer who was shot during a shootout.
Ohio State University head coach Urban Meyer visited Deputy Jacob Heaberlin and his family at a hospital on Wednesday, 247Sports reported. Heaberlin is recovering from his injuries suffered during a shootout over the weekend.
On Saturday, Heaberlin attempted to pull over a man driving erratically before the driver crashed into a pole. When Heaberlin drew his weapon and walked toward the driver, the man, identified as 55-year-old Darrell Bruffy, opened fire on the deputy.

Heaberlin was hit in the lower abdomen just below his body armor before returning fire. Two other officers also fired at Bruffy, who was killed in the shootout.
The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office posted about Meyer’s visit with Heaberlin and thanked the head coach, who’s a known supporter of the military and law enforcement.
“From a warrior on the field to a warrior on our streets. We would like to thank OSU Coach (Meyer) for stopping by to visit Deputy Jacob Heaberlin in the hospital today after he was shot in the line of duty earlier this week. GO JAKE & GO BUCKS,” the department said in a Tweet.
