CONYERS, Ga. — Authorities say a Georgia man shot and killed two people inside a liquor store and then shot his parents before he was killed in a shootout with a deputy.

Rockdale County Sheriff Eric Levett said at a news conference that the dispute began Sunday afternoon at the store in Conyers, about 25 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Investigators say 36-year-old Jeffrey Scott Pitts and a clerk had a run-in over an unpaid bill. The clerk kept Pitts’ identification and a few hours later, Pitts came back with an assault rifle, shooting and killing the clerk and a customer.

Levett says Pitts then went home and shot his parents. When a deputy arrived, Pitts opened fire on him. Levett says the deputy returned fire, killing Pitts.

Officials say Pitts’ parents are in stable condition.
