OROSI, Calif. — A California sheriff’s office released body cam footage of a man attacking a deputy with a machete inside a home before being fatally shot.
On Thursday, Tulare County deputies responded to call from family members of a man identified as Anthony Trujillo to report him, the Visalia Times Delta reported. Family members said Trujillo, who was described as a schizophrenic, was behaving erratically, Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said.
"[The mother] describes him as being ‘off’ his medication,” Boudreaux said. “We don’t know what he was taking.”
Deputies arrived at the home and were directed to the suspect’s bedroom. The deputies demanded Trujillo to come out of the room, which the suspect refused to do.

Moments later, deputies said they heard the door rattle and believed Trujillo was coming out to speak with them. But when Trujillo opened the door, police said he had a machete in his hands and raised it above his head.
Authorities said Trujillo struck a deputy in the left side of his head, causing a “deep laceration,” according to the Fresno Bee. The deputy’s partner fired about six times at Trujillo in the chest, fatally wounding him.
The deputy struck in the head was also shot in the hand by crossfire. He was taken to a hospital, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
“Our hearts truly go out to everyone in this situation,” Boudreaux said. “Everyone is suffering.”
