LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas police released body cam footage of officers fatally shooting a man who reached for a gun during a traffic stop.

On April 6, officers were on their way to an unrelated call when they saw 22-year-old Junior Davis Lopez driving recklessly, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports. When Lopez exited his vehicle, a handgun fell to the ground.

Officers repeatedly told Lopez to not reach for the gun before the suspect dropped to his knees near the firearm. In the video, Lopez can be heard asking officers to shoot him.

“Shoot me,” Lopez yells.

“Don’t reach for the gun, man!” an officer yells back. “Do not reach (for) the gun!”

Lopez grabbed the gun, prompting officers to fire three shots. Lopez was still alive and lying next to the gun as police called for medical personnel.

When the suspect rolled toward the gun, an officer fired a fourth shot at him. Lopez was then taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

On Sunday, police identified the officers who shot Lopez as Francisco Rivera and Padilla Mills. Both officers were placed on administrative leave, per policy, while police review the shooting.
