PASADENA, Texas — A man was fatally shot after pulling a gun on a Texas officer during a traffic stop, dash and body cam footage shows.
KPRC-TV reports that Pasadena Officer Marc Adams, 40, pulled over 44-year-old Marco Antonio Saavedra Thursday when the suspect almost immediately got out of his vehicle and pulled out a gun. Saavedra ignored orders, prompting Adams to fire multiple shots at the suspect, fatally wounding him.
Police said Adams, who’s been with the Pasadena PD for 13 years, has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. Asst. Chief Josh Bruegger said Adams was shaken up by the incident.
“He’s obviously shaken up. Any time an officer is placed in a position where he has to take somebody’s life it’s a stressful situation,” Bruegger said. “It’s unfortunate the officer was placed in the position but, when the suspect points a weapon directly at the officer the officer really has no choice but to defend himself.”
Police said the gun in Saavedra’s possession had been reported stolen.
