Police said no one was injured in the shootout

CHICAGO — Recently released video shows a shootout between an off-duty officer and two people who attempted to carjack him in Chicago.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability released the video of the April incident on Wednesday, NBC Chicago reports. The video shows two armed men walking up to a car before opening the doors and pointing guns at the driver.

The driver turned out to be an off-duty Chicago officer, who opened fire while the two men were inside the car, according to WLS-TV. Another angle of the video shows the officer running past one of the gunman out into traffic as they engaged in a shootout.

The suspects eventually exit on the same side, dropping a backpack from the car before running to a nearby getaway car waiting for them. The officer attempts to pursue them before calling for backup.

Police said no one was injured in the shootout.

Authorities continue to search for the suspects and ask anyone who has information to contact Chicago police.
