Video: Man fires shot into air, turns towards Fla. officers with gun before fatal OIS

The man was involved in a physical fight when he began to threaten people with a handgun; he failed to drop the gun after being ordered to do so by Orlando PD officers

ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orlando Police Department released surveillance and body camera footage showing an officer-involved shooting of a man who fired a shot into the air with several bystanders nearby, Clickorlando.com reported.

The April 20 incident occurred in a crowded downtown area. Surveillance video from OPD’s Crime Center shows the man involved in a physical altercation with another individual. During the struggle, a handgun fell from his waistband. The video shows the man retrieving the weapon, and moments later, firing a shot into the air, prompting people nearby to flee.

Body-worn camera footage shows multiple officers approaching the suspect with their weapons drawn. Officers order him to put his hands up. The man is seen bent over, appearing to pick something up, with the firearm still in his hand. As he turns to face the officers, they open fire.

The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. No officers were injured in the incident, according to the report.
