The officer was helping out an elderly man in the neighborhood

DALLAS — A councilwoman called to complain about an officer trimming trees, NBC 5 reported.

The Dallas police officer had stopped to help a 90-year-old man trim some trees in his front yard, Jason Stringer, the grandson of the elderly man, told the publication.

“An officer showing he cares that much about going out and helping the community,” Stringer said in his interview. “If anything I think he should get a commendation. When he came over someone ended up calling in and reporting there was an officer trimming trees and not on duty.”

The person who called to complain was Dallas City Councilwoman Carolyn King Arnold, the department told NBC 5. She told police it was on behalf of a constituent who was upset.

“When I first found out about it, I was pretty appalled! I mean here’s an officer helping a 90-year-old man who can’t trim his trees,” Stringer said to the news site about the complaint.

When the publication asked the councilwoman to clarify her complaint, she said she didn’t know anything about it.

“The bottom line is neighbors are committed to taking control, investing in their neighborhoods and looking out for what’s going on,” Arnold said to NBC 5. “So I think in terms of holding all officials accountable, public officials accountable, I think it’s up to the neighbors to take care of their business.”

She refused to answer any further questions from NBC 5.

The department will not file any complaints against the officer, but will give him a commendation for his actions.
