UNION CITY, Ga. — A south Fulton County car wreck killed one man fleeing police and seriously injured two more Wednesday afternoon, police said.

A Union City officer reported a Jaguar S-Type with suspicious individuals around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

The officer called in the tag and learned that the car had been stolen on Tuesday.

“The people in the car saw the officer and fled,” Union City police spokesman George Louth said.

The officer followed the Jaguar eastbound on Flat Shoals Road.

Forty-five seconds later, Louth said the officer reported the stolen car colliding with a wrecker exiting I-85.

“They apparently ran a light,” he said. “Speed was a factor.”

One of the two passengers was killed in the wreck, Louth said.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office was unable to identify the man or give his age Wednesday evening. The surviving 17-year-old passenger was flown to Atlanta Medical Center, where he is listed in serious condition.

The 18-year-old driver was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he also was listed in serious condition late Wednesday.

The driver of the tow truck suffered minor injuries, and was treated and released on the scene.

Louth said charges are pending against both teens, and police continue to investigate.
