ROSEBURG, Ore. — A Roseburg police officer crashed into a utility pole on Rainbow Street Sunday during a brief pursuit of another driver.

Cpl. Travis Dahl, 36, was pursuing the other driver on Harvard Avenue when he tried to turn from the eastbound lane onto Rainbow and lost control shortly after 1 p.m., according to an Oregon State Police report.

Dahl’s patrol vehicle went over a curb and crashed into the utility pole before coming to a rest in the intersection.

The vehicle sustained heavy damage, but Dahl was not injured.

The suspect who was fleeing Dahl, identified as Edward Lee Maley, 32, of Roseburg, was arrested a short time later. He was lodged at the Douglas County Jail on charges of attempt to elude police, reckless driving and criminal driving while suspended. He was also held on a parole violation.
