ALTA SIERRA, Calif. — A northern California sheriff’s office released video on Wednesday showing the fatal shooting of a knife-wielding woman — apparently experiencing a mental health breakdown — who charged at a deputy.

Ariella Crawford, 33, died at a hospital after the disturbing Feb. 4 incident, which transpired in front of her two small children on a leafy residential street, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

In dashcam video released by authorities, Crawford repeatedly points at two deputies, yelling “everyone knows who you are.” The deputies attempt to diffuse the situation. As she begins to race at one law enforcement official, the other deputy pursues her and fires his gun several times.

After the shooting in the small community of Alta Sierra, Calif., Deputy Caleb Toderean and Deputy Matthew Harrison were placed on administrative leave, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said. Neither deputy was wounded during the incident.

Sheriff Shannan Moon said the deputies responded to the scene after a concerned resident reported witnessing Crawford walking with two children in the center of a busy roadway.

A probe into the shooting led by the Nevada County District Attorney’s Office was ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office.

A recently formed crisis therapist team launched in the county to handle mental health calls was not on duty at the time of the incident, KOVR-TV reported.
