PUEBLO, Colo. Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office employees and other local first responders are going to go bald for a good cause.

Three sheriff’s office employees are shaving their heads to help fund research for childhood cancer as part of a St. Baldrick’s fundraiser scheduled from 3 to 8 p.m. March 12 at the Shamrock Brewing Co.

The employees are patrol deputies Brad Riccillo and Dave Morey, and Jeff Reynolds, a radio systems coordinator in the emergency services bureau.

The three employees will be among the group of other local first responders who will be losing their locks during the annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation hair-cutting fundraiser. The sheriff’s office is among the event sponsors.

St. Baldrick’s events are held annually in March throughout the nation to raise money and awareness for childhood cancer by having volunteers shave their heads in exchange for monetary donations.

Riccillo has been growing his hair out since November in anticipation of getting his ears lowered for the third time at the St. Baldrick’s event.

“I really believe in this cause because I think kids should have a normal childhood. They should grow up doing things like playing and watching cartoons and not worrying about cancer,” Riccillo said in a press release sent. “When a child is faced with cancer, they have to worry about treatments, medication and their appearance. That’s just not fair. Shaving my head is a small thing I can do to raise awareness for childhood cancer.”

Riccillo raised $674 at last year’s St. Baldrick’s fundraiser and has set a goal of $1,000 for this year.

“I’m going at it hard and heavy,” he said. “I have agreed to match the donation total that I receive. The more money I raise, the better it will be for this awesome cause.”
