OKLAHOMA CITY — It has been five years since Oklahoma County Deputy Daniel McCain put on a sheriff’s deputy uniform, but he’s coming back to the agency to honor his fallen brother.

Deputy Jeremy McCain, Daniel’s brother, was killed in an accident while in his patrol vehicle at Oklahoma Christian School in March, according to KOKH.

In honor of his late brother, Daniel, or Deputy Dan as the students call him, is taking the position of a school resource officer at the same school his brother served at.

“He had kind of followed my legacy through my law enforcement career before I deployed and I got out of law enforcement after that,” Daniel told KOKH. “This kind of gives me the opportunity to follow his legacy now and just kind of honor him.”

Daniel was the first school resource officer at Oklahoma Christian School and served until 2017 when his brother took over. Daniel left the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office after 11 years to serve in Afghanistan.

“I could never take my brother’s place here at Oklahoma Christian,” Daniel said, “but if I can make an impact on just a few of these kids’ lives, I can’t think of a better way to honor Jeremy’s memory.”
