JUNCTION CITY, Kan. — A Kansas police officer found a handwritten vulgarity on the receipt for his coffee Saturday at a Junction City McDonald’s.
Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday posted on Facebook on Saturday that one of his officers received the coffee with the handwritten note that read “F---ing Pig” when he stopped for the coffee on his way to work.
Hornaday wrote that the company offered the officer a free lunch in compensation.
“No thank you,” he wrote. “A Big Mac and large fries doesn’t make up for it. The US Veteran who continues to serve deserves much more. This is not only bad for McDonalds, but is also a black eye for Junction City. I apologize for the foul language, but covering it up would take away the full effect. Please share!”
By early Saturday evening, the post had been shared nearly 2,600 times.
Hornaday wrote that he understands it was likely the act of one person and not representative of the company. McDonald’s corporate media did not immediately return an inquiry from The Eagle.
“We are conducting an internal investigation and taking the matter very seriously,” a person who answered the phone at the McDonald’s in Junction City said.
Officials at the Herington Police Department could not immediately be reached for comment.
The Junction City Police Department posted on Facebook that the incident did happen and that the note was not indicative of the majority of residents.
“We would like that officer to know this is not representative of how the majority of residents in Junction City feel about Law Enforcement,” the post says. “JCPD has a very wonderful and supportive community we are honored to serve. We are hopeful that the business this occurred takes appropriate action.”
