Authorities identified the officer as a woman but did not immediately name her.
“My heart goes out to the family to this Special Police officer,” said D.C. Police Chief Robert Contee to WTOP.
According to WTOP, the officer was on duty and working on behalf of a nearby complex. Officers found her with a gunshot wound and “unconscious and not breathing.”
Police say they are looking for a white Camry with dark tinted windows, WTOP reported. The investigation is ongoing.

There is a lot of police activity within the parking lot of Oak Hill Apartments. Yellow tape surrounds this area— as well as 10th street between Congress Street and Savannah Street SE.
