MECCA, Calif. — A citizen who was driving by a physical altercation between a deputy and a suspect stepped in to help.
According to KESQ, a deputy approached Alejandro Parra De La Riva, 29, who matched the description of a suspect who caused a disturbance at a business and stole some items.
When the deputy attempted to arrest De La Riva, he became aggressive and a physical altercation occurred. In the video, De La Riva can be seen assaulting the deputy on the sidewalk.
A citizen jumped into help and restrained De La Riva until backup arrived to take him into custody, KESQ reported.
The deputy was treated for moderate injuries at a hospital and released. De La Riva was not injured.
The suspect is charged with assault on a peace officer and assault with a deadly weapon causing bodily injury to a peace officer.
