NORWALK, Conn. — Body cameras captured a dramatic rescue by Norwalk police.
WABC reported a driver lost control in an intersection, tore through a small park and plowed through a metal fence where he went over an embankment. His vehicle landed 15 feet below and flipped upside down in the Norwalk River.
Officers jumped into the freezing water to rescue the driver from his sinking vehicle.
“The officers selflessly entered that water, you’ll see in the video, the water is rushing out, all the windows in the vehicle are broken out, so water was rushing into the vehicle,” Lt. Terry Blake told the news site.
Officers found the driver alive. He was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries.
Police are investigating the cause of the crash. The driver has not been charged.
