BOISE, Idaho — A Boise police officer was shot in the chest and a male suspect was killed in a shoot-out late Tuesday night, according to a press release from the Boise Police Department.
Here’s what police say happened:
At 11:42 p.m. officers received a report of a shooting near Bridlewood Circle and North Glenwood Street. When officers arrived, they were shot at by a man standing outside of a residence. Officers returned fire. One officer was struck in the chest and injured. He is being treated at a Boise hospital. He was wearing a ballistic vest and his injuries are not life-threatening. The suspect was injured by gunfire and died at the scene. It’s unclear if officer’s shots hit the suspect.
After confirming the suspect was no longer a threat, officers helped an injured person from the original 911 call. That victim was taken to a Boise hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The shooting victim and the suspect knew each other, police said.
The Ada County Sheriff’s Office is leading a Critical Incident Task Force investigation.
“There’s just a lot to do with that scene,” Boise Police Chief Bill Bones said.
It’s possible that a Boise officer and another from Garden City were wearing body cameras, Boise Police Chief Bill Bones said.
Neighbors are being allowed into their homes, Bones said.
Boise police were involved in another shooting earlier this month. In that incident, Noel Rodriguez, a Caldwell man released on parole in February, reportedly rammed police vehicles before being shot.
