ALBUQUERQUE — Body camera video shows the fatal confrontation between Albuquerque officers and an armed carjacking suspect, KOAT reported.
Officers Andrew Quillman and Shawna Romero responded to a call about an armed carjacking when they spotted the suspect, 19-year-old Jose Rodriguez, on foot. When Rodriguez refused to stop walking, Quillman left his patrol vehicle to confront him.
While it’s unclear in the video, it appears that after Quillman commanded Rodriquez to take his hands out of his pockets the suspect made an aggressive move and pointed what may have been a weapon toward the officer, leading to the officers opening fire.
The video shows a firearm on the ground next to Rodriguez after the fatal shooting.
Both officers are on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. This was the first fatal use of force for both officers since they joined the force in 2001.
