NORTON, Ohio — An officer’s body cam captured the moment when an SUV hit his patrol car and flipped it on its side.

Officer Ryan Connell pulled over a man Dec. 10 for a lane violation and arrested him on a drug charge, News 5 reported.

Connell was sitting in his vehicle writing a ticket while the man was in the back of his patrol car when a woman deliberately slammed her SUV into the patrol vehicle, police told the news station.

“The next thing I knew I was sideways on the interstate and all I heard leading up to that was screeching tires,” Connell said. “I had a guardian angel with me at the time.”

Connell and the man in the backseat only suffered minor injuries.

“You try to block out that fear, but you sign up for it. You come to work every night and know that something can happen. You pray to God that it doesn’t happen,” he said.

Officer Joshua Pond, who was providing backup, heard the woman who caused the wreck repeatedly say “I want to die.”

Officers said she admitted to hitting the vehicle on purpose because she was suicidal.

The woman was taken to a local hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
