TELLICO PLAINS, Tenn. — A domestic assault call that led to a standoff with police from three agencies early Tuesday morning ended when officers flushed the barricaded suspect out using a non lethal gas.

Jason C. McNellis, 32, was charged with domestic assault and false imprisonment, and additional charges may be pending, according to Monroe County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Jennifer Bledsoe.

The incident began shortly before midnight, when Tellico Plains Police officers and Monroe County deputies were sent to Old Yates Store Apartments on Bank Street on a domestic assault complaint.

When they tried to interview Mc-Nellis, he slammed the door and threatened to kill an officer with a shotgun, Bledsoe said.

The Monroe County SWAT Team was called out, along with Sweetwater Police Department Sergeant Marty Kyle, a specialist in chemical nonlethal weapons.

During the standoff, McNellis moved across the roof line and into a vacant apartment, where Kyle deployed two canisters of concentrated CS gas, prompting McNellis to c ome to the window and surrender shortly before 5 a.m.
