SUSSEX, England — Body cam footage was released Friday of a man attacking officers with a hammer last January.
Police responded to a call of a man acting suspiciously, The Crawley Observer reported.
Officers discovered Jamshid Piruz hiding in a confined bin area armed with a hammer.
Piruz, 34, threatened police with the hammer after coming out from hiding. Two officers deployed TASERs, but they didn’t subdue the suspect.
As the officers retreated, Piruz attacked Officer Jessie Chick, who defended herself with a baton while other officers returned to the scene to aid her. Officer Stuart Young was hit on the neck and shoulder with the hammer before police were able to subdue and arrest Piruz, according to the publication.
Both officers suffered minor injuries and have since returned to work.
Piruz was sentenced to life for attempted grievous bodily harm offenses.
