FAIRFIELD, Calif. — Three patrol vehicles from different Bay Area law enforcement agencies were involved in a traffic collision in Fairfield during a procession today for fallen Richmond police Officer Brad Moody.
The accident happened around 2:45 p.m. on Interstate Highway 80 near Air Base Parkway as the procession traveled through Fairfield, California Highway Patrol Sgt. Betsy Legg said.
A Fairfield police car rear-ended a Pleasant Hill police car, which was then pushed into a Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office Car, said Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office. All three were K-9 vehicles.
No one was injured, Legg said.
“It was an unfortunate incident,” Legg said, adding it was lucky no one was injured.
The vehicles involved in the crash were part of a large procession of officers, paying their respects to 29-year-old Moody, an eight-year veteran of the Richmond Police Department, who was killed in a crash Oct. 4.
The procession was traveling from the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, where a public service was held, to a private service in Vacaville, where Moody was raised.
The CHP is investigating the collision.
