Calif. deputies training at state park rescue man who fell down 30 ft. ravine

BIG SUR, Calif — Search and Rescue personnel in training were at the right place at the right time for one man who was helped at Garrapata State Park over the weekend.

Around 9:50 a.m. on June 10, Monterey County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue deputies and volunteers were conducting acclimatization and medical training at Garrapata State Park when a search and rescue team member discovered a 68-year-old man had fallen about 30 down into a ravine.

As a result of the fall, the man sustained injuries, lost consciousness, and was not able to self-extricate himself from his situation.

Search and rescue team members were able to perform a low-angle rope rescue, gain access to the man, and transport him to an awaiting ambulance.

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
