Teen attacker shot, killed by Dallas transit officer

HARTFORD, Conn. — A 16-year-old suspected of sideswiping a Hartford police officer early this morning was arrested after the officer and his partner traced the car to the owner’s home, police said.
The teen is charged with two counts of interfering with police, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, reckless endangerment, second-degree assault, unsafe movement, driving without a license, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving an uninsured vehicle.
He hurt his right wrist while jumping a chain-link fence to escape the officers and was treated at Hartford Hospital, police said.
Officer Michael McCormack, who suffered scraped knees during the incident in the morning, hurt his left elbow and right wrist while jumping the fence in pursuit of the teen, police said. He was treated at Hartford Hospital and released.
McCormack, 31, and Officer James Rutkauski were investigating a suspicious car on Otis Street at 3:48 a.m. today, police said. When the officers approached, the driver floored the gas pedal and sideswiped McCormack, police said.
He returned to work after being treated at Hartford Hospital, police said. Rutkauski was not hurt during the incident, police said.
The two officers went after 9 a.m. to 73 Otis St., where they had determined the owner of the two-door red 1992 Honda Accord lives, police said.
While they patrolled the area, the 16-year-old suspect ran from the back of the house, jumped a fence and fled west on Otis Street, police said.
McCormack and Rutkauski chased him on foot and caught him, police said. The teen had three bags of marijuana, police said.
